THE AT-HOME GUIDE

Measure once.
Then check it again.

Your X-seam measures the seated reach from the base of your back to your heels. It helps establish pedal reach on a recumbent trike; trouser inseam is a different measurement.

  1. Set up your support.

Use a firm board about 30–48 inches long. Lean it securely against a wall with its floor end 14–16 inches away. Make sure it cannot slide.

  2. Take your position.

Wear your usual riding shoes. Sit on the floor with your hips against the board’s lower end and your back resting on the board.

  3. Reach, then measure.

Extend both legs along the floor, knees straight and toes upward. Measure horizontally from the board’s floor contact to the back of your heel.

  4. Record your X-seam.

Measuring solo? Place a book at your heels to mark the endpoint. Repeat the setup and measurement, then enter your reading below.

Measure from the board’s base—not the wall. Keep the tape flat on the floor. If getting into this position is uncomfortable or difficult, ask us for help with your fit.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you choose.

X-seam helps narrow the choice.
Your complete fit matters, too.

Does Small mean a different level of trike?

Small and Standard identify the two X-seam ranges. They are sizing names, not performance grades. We’ll confirm which option is available for your chosen model and configuration.

What if I am close to a range limit?

Remeasure and contact us before deciding. At an endpoint, in the overlap, or outside both ranges, a fit conversation helps us check your measurement and the adjustment your configuration allows.

Does this guarantee a comfortable fit?

No. The guide checks your measurement against the listed ranges. Seat position, reach to the controls, footwear, and your chosen configuration also matter. A personal fit check brings those details together.

Can you help me check my measurement?

Absolutely. Contact Pickens Cycles with your measurement and the model you’re considering, or request a private demo in the Greenville area.
